Summer Fair

Hello

It's that time of year again, when we all come together to raise funds for our lovely school.  The parent council members are working hard setting up stalls and Book Club will be running their own stall.  Come along and find out what our favourites are. There will be recommendations and previously loved books to buy. You can even make your own book mark.  We'd love to see you there and we'll encourage you to come to Book club next term.

What we like to read:-

Looking forward to seeing you at the Summer Fair tomorrow.

Book Group

Hello again

It's good to see many pupils attending Book Club on Wednesdays at 1pm in the Library.

In addition to our library stock, we have a wide range of titles exclusively for Book Club members so come along and have a wider choice of exciting texts.

We have had fun spending the commission earned from our Book Fairs - thank you for purchasing from the book fair as it gives us more money to update our stock.

A large amount of money has been spent updating our group novels for class discussions, particularly P7 where 4 new sets have been added to our stock.

As always, we try to keep our Book Group novels fresh and up-to-date.  Particular favourites are the Sinclair Mystery novels by Katherine Woodfine and the Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries by Robin Stevens.  A couple of new books were quickly snapped up and they are fantastic reads - look out for Beetle Boy by M G Leonard and What not to do if you turn Invisible by Ross Welford.

Let us know your favourites.  What about mum and dad?  What are they reading?  Miss Broadley has just finished Amy and Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout and is now reading The Light between Oceans by M L Stedman.

Till next time - happy reading.

Spellchasers with Lari Don

Good afternoon

Well, what an exciting day.  Lari Don visited our school today to launch the second book in her Spellchasers series on World Book Day.  Primary 5 were the lucky audience and we were delighted to welcome our friends from P5 at Stockbridge Primary School.

Lari was as engaging as ever and gave us so many ideas to develop our own story writing.  After her presentation, Floris Books (Lari's publishers) had lots of exciting activities for us to follow including a small discussion group with Lari.

At the end of the session, there was a presentation for the winner and runners-up in The Spellchasers drawing competition.  Here is the lucky winner:-

So, a great big thank you to Lari for visiting our school and giving us all such fun.  We hope you come again soon.

Book Club

Hello

This week in school we are celebrating all things bookish.  Lots of exciting events taking place in classrooms.

In Book Club today, we wanted to share the things we have recently read - books, magazines, newspapers - and recommend these to other members.  Charlotte kicked off with First News which she loves for its interesting articles and information about world events.

Joseph was most enthusiastic about The Clockwork Sparrow and thought Sophie was a brilliant character.  He is currently reading the second book in the series and was delighted to see we had just purchased the third.  Joseph is a very happy boy with lots of reading to do!

Caitlin recommended The chancery Lane Conspiracy which she thought had a well-developed plot and also introduced us to "The Week Junior".  Perhaps another magazine for us to subscribe to.

Have a look at the pictures below and discover something new to read as recommended by our lovely book clubbers.

See you tomorrow with news of Lari Don's visit.

Badger Bill

Hello again

We've had such a lovely morning.  Alison Kennedy arrived early at our school (very impressed) and enjoyed watching our assemblies.

She was then invited to our fantastic library to be interviewed for Live at Five.

After that, our selected audience were given copies of "Uncle Shawn and Bill" and we all settled down to hear Alison read.  Next, it was question time  - and what a lot of interesting questions were posed by our enthusiastic readers.  Alison answered every one with patience and humour.

She happily signed each and every copy of the book and everyone went away very pleased indeed.

So we want to say thank you very much, Alison, for coming to our school and you are welcome to come back any time.  We enjoyed listening to you and enjoyed your company.

You can see a few photos on our Twitter feed and of course, tell your friends about our blog.

The programme is scheduled to be broadcast on Monday evening but could be put back to Tuesday.  STV will email a link and we'll put it out on Twitter.  Stay tuned!

Next Thursday is World Book Day and we are delighted to welcome back our friend, Lari Don who will be sharing exciting extracts from her Spellchasers series.

Keep checking in with the blog and you might even see some of your favourite book characters next week!

Happy reading
Your friendly book clubbers.

We're back

Hello Everyone

Long time since you heard from us!  Not to worry - we are still reading and Book Club is thriving.  We now meet on Wednesdays at 1pm in the school library.  Everyone is welcome to join us.  There are many new books to read and our library stock has also been refreshed.

So what's new?  This is a very exciting time for us,  On Friday, 24th February we are hosting a visit from A L Kennedy.  Alison is an established author of adult fiction and non-fiction and has now turned her hand to writing for children.  We are delighted to welcome her to Flora Stevenson School and look forward to discussing her book in Book Club.

The following week is Book Week and of course World Book Day is on Thursday, 2nd March.  To celebrate the day we are so pleased to welcome back our favourite author and friend, Lari Don.  As you know, Lari has visited our school on many previous occasions and it is always a delight when she agrees to come again.  Look out for colourful and creative costumes depicting our best loved book characters.

We hope you will keep reading and join us next time for an update on Alison's visit.

Till then, happy reading

Your friendly Book Clubbers.
